Okan – FSC or OLB certified

Because of the natural durability of Okan and resistance of the heartwood against fungi (durability class 1), it is widely used for external works and marine constructions such as lock gates, piling, harbour works, sleepers and for bridge timbers.

The durability and strength of Okan often called African Greenheart or Denya, combined with its naturally non-uniformed colour and the varying individual characteristics of each piece of timber make it an ideal timber for horse stable boards.

In recent tests where Okan was one of the final five lesser used species tested for their performance, and benchmarked against Greenheart and Ekki, this hardwood was found to be comparable in its resistance to gribble, shipworm and abrasion.

Certification and grading

Wijma UK Limited is a leading supplier of FSC certified timbers, we stock Okan with either OLB or FSC® certification, and supply sawn and machined sections at our sawmill and processing facilities in Holland and three sawmills in Cameroon, supplying a large range of sizes to our customers from large beams and piling, to decking and cladding.

With our certified graders we are able to visually strength grade to the HS Grade, strength class D40 according to BS5756:2007 and BS EN 338.
